Hi Jesse,
If the scoring is below the ports it will not affect the compression, but will chew up the rings and piston skirt which will affect the compression :( :S
Unless you have a bike of great rarity and value, restorations don't normally make enough money when sold on to pay for your time, parts and labour, restore because you like the bike and want to keep it and ride it.
Good luck
John

What John said. Being a two stroke crankcase compression is also an issue so any scoring is a bad thing.

Beware not to overfill the gearbox. If it's like The little dipstick thing built in to the filler on the GFR it is a bit critical. Best read with it not screwed ion. If you overfill the gearbox and give it the beans the excess will puke out of the breather. If it's routed correctly that's not a problem. If it isn't you can get oil on your rear tyre. (Voice of experience).

Not a greatly sought after machine as far as I know so don't sink too much cash in to it.

Does anybody know what the bike is like when running, never actually ridden it so unsure whether it is worth paying out to get it running? What would you guys expect to pay for a Sioux in non running condition? And what would be a good price for a runner? Thanks again

Hi all, my piston got lost in the post, and i am finding it difficult to source another. I have found 2 different pistons on wemoto-

www.wemoto.com/bikes/gilera/gsm_50_piagg...n_kit_0.00_standard/

www.wemoto.com/bikes/gilera/gsm_50_derbi...n_kit_0.00_standard/

I presume i need the piaggio piston, however im unsure so another opinion would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

No eBay APP ID défined in Kunena configurationI don't know the diffrence but if yours is an '02 then from the Wemoto link it looks like it may be tyhe Derbi piston you need.
Alternatively it looks as if you can get a complete pattern top end kit from Italy, though the price with shipping is going to be a lot higher:
