TOPIC:

i have just started to take the carb apart as it is currently leaking lossing fuel fuel somewhere it can only realy be going into the engine , also i beleive the bike is running rich
fuel is not comming out of the overflow, the gasket around the carb or the carb drain plug, so the only 2 places i can think of are
1, the float needle not seating - i cannot see any obvious signs of wear
2 the choke plunger is not sealing properly - i have fitted a plunger.

so my plan is to clean everthing again,

Next problem

when i took the top off the carb and checked the needle valve, the circlip fell off, the manaul says
U23/3^
u23 i think is the needle type and 3^ means 3rd groove
however my needle is U21
should i change needles ? do you think this relates to the hesitation around 5-6000 rpm

on a better note i have fitted a new rectifier and now the lights work.
i have welded the front of the exhaust where it was rusted through and cleaned and repacked the silencer.

inbetween all the problems i have actually been riding the bike it always starts and is great fun even if it does have hesitation around 5- 6000 rpm.
i would just like to sort out these few problems

You are turning the fuel tap off overnight properly? Sometimes I have a brain fart and turn the one on the GFR to reserve instead of off.

Even with the tap on though fuel shouldn't get past the carb. You probably need to check the float height and then test the float valve by connecting up a fuel line with a bit of fuel in it and holding the valve closed by very light finger pressure on the float. That's how I diagbosed my YZ. I couldn't actually see any wear on the float needle tip but it just wouldn't seat.

Still a mystery as to why the excess fuel goes in to the crankcase rather than the overflow tubes.

If you can get a needle of the recommended type I would try it.
